Top 100 Daily Newspapers Rankings of 2005 Published by BurrellesLuceUnique chart available free online for communications professionals LIVINGSTON, NJ (August 18, 2005) — BurrellesLuce has released the 2005 ranking chart featuring the circulation of the top 100 daily newspapers in the United States. The unique chart, which is included with the current issue of the BurrellesLuce Media Report, is available free of charge as a resource for professionals in the public relations, corporate communications and investor relations industries, the company announced today. The data was compiled by BurrellesLuce from the Audit Bureau of Circulations? figures for the six months ended March 31, 2005. According to the BurrellesLuce report, which ranks newspapers by their weekday circulation, USA Today and The Wall Street Journal retained their position as the top two newspapers in the country. The top seven-day-a-week newspapers are The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Washington Post, (NY) Daily News, New York Post, Chicago Tribune, and the Houston Chronicle. The Dallas Morning News rounds out the top ten. Among the seven-day-a-week newspapers, the top 10 Sunday newspapers are, in order of circulation, The New York Sunday Times, Los Angeles Times, Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, (NY) Daily News, Philadelphia Inquirer, Sunday Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News, Houston Chronicle, Detroit News and Free Press and The Boston Globe.? According to the Washington Post and the industry trade group, the Newspaper Association of America, circulation at the top U.S. daily newspapers has declined between 1 and 2% in the past year due in part to the increased popularity of the Internet and 24-hour television news channels.
